RETIREMENT BOARDING

Do you have a senior horse that you can no longer ride? Or you do not not have time to take care of? Do you want your horse to have quality care and you have peace of mind? We can provide your senior equine with lots of room for movement, shelter from the different weather elements at his own choice, fresh water, and of course any feeding program necessary.

Large spacious paddocks for your horse to have freedom to move. A horse that is able to roam and move around is one of the three most important requirements to the horse.

Each paddock has:

3 Sided Shed with 1/2" Stall Mats.

60-100 gallon water tanks.

Lighting and Outlet for Fans.

Mini Donkeys are welcome too!

We currently have two mini donkeys that have been companions to the Senior Equine when in need.

Photo is our very own Annie.

We adopted Annie in 2022.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • A horse can hear your heart beat 4 feet away.
  • Horses will synchronize their heartbeats to the other horses in the herd in order to sense danger more quickly (National Equine Resource Network/ Dec. 16, 2020)
  • A horse knows when you are feeling happy, bad, anger, sad, you name it.
  • A horse does not like conflict or confrontation. He wants to live in peace.
  • A horse wants to graze, have companionship and movement; these are the three most important things for a horse.
  • A person’s energy when handling or being around a horse needs to be calm, peaceful, pleasant, and inviting.
  • The person's behavior, actions, attitude, presence should be firm yet gentle when handling or working with a horse.
  • An easy going, relaxed, and comfortable demeanor is welcoming to the horse. I am not saying to be so easy going and relaxed that you are not paying attention. I am saying your demeanor has to be pleasant and peaceful.
  • A horse will take advantage of you if you are not paying attention.
  • Here is a quote from one of my favorite trainer. “If a horse can feel a tiny fly on him, imagine what he feels when a person is sitting on him.”

RANCH RULES

    ABOUT US

Carrie’s love for horses began at an early age when her grandparents were dairy farmers in upstate New York. They bought Carrie her very first pony, and it was on the farm where she learned to ride with coaching from her grandmother. She honed her riding skills by participating

in neighborhood trail rides and by riding bareback on her favorite quarter horse, Mr. Kay.

College and career eventually put owning a horse on the back burner, but Carrie stayed involved with horses by volunteering as a leader and side walker for an Equine Therapeutic center in Houston, Texas for several years. In 2004 she became a horse owner again and competed in barrel racing for over 16 years.

When she and her husband, along with her two horses and dogs moved back to Texas,

she took a break from barrel racing to focus on her job and their new ranch.

During the Covid lockdown, Carrie decided to follow her dream of owning an equine business.

Although, Carrie learned from many trainers while barrel racing, as well as attending many clinics, she felt like she needed more information on the nature and behavior of horses. After experiencing the ups and downs in barrel racing including the injuries to horses

and riders, witnessing the way people handle and treat horses (good or bad), witnessing challenging horse behaviors, and, how people label horses based upon their behaviors, Carrie decided to pursue a formal education on equines.

It took her over 2 years to complete and acquire certification of the required courses in Equine Behavior & Management,

and Advanced Equine Training from the Animal Behavior institute, a premier accredited school. Carrie has started a business called

“AGE is JUST a NUMBER RANCH, LLC. where she wants to help equine lovers by sharing her knowledge of the most current learning theories. Educating individuals on equine behaviors, safety when handling or working around horses, groundwork, energy,

ranch sitting, and retirement boarding are just a few areas that she will focus on.

Carrie will continue to educate herself by working with other certified trainers who have the same passion for helping people

understand horses and horse welfare, and to help develop compassionate and knowledgeable horsemen and women.

Carrie is also very active in her community: a twenty-seven-year volunteer at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a foster for multiple Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society horses, a member of the Cowboy Church of Brenham Arena Team, a member of the Rotary of Caldwell, TX., and a member of the Burleson County Chamber of Commerce.

    A note from Carrie:

I realize as I reflect on my past experiences and challenges in the horse world, how each horse has prepared me for where I am today.

I believe that when we try to control our situations without asking and listening for help, things may or may not work out the way we want. Whatever the outcome, we are presented with the lessons that we are intended to learn. I do my best to ask and listen to my

Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who will give us guidance and direction.

“We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.” – Proverbs 16.9
